2011 Race for the Cure!

The Latina and Multicultural Breast Cancer Programs at Comunidades Unidas have formed a team for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in Salt Lake City on May 7, 2011. The team is called "Comunidades Unidas". Please join our team in helping supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

To join the team:
1. Go to Susan G. Komen's Website
2. Scroll over Komen Race for the Cure
3. Click on "Teams"
4. Select "Join a Team"
5. At the bottom of the page under "To find a team..." enter:
        1. Team Name: Comunidades Unidas
        2. Team Company: Comunidades Unidas 
        3.Team Division: any division
6. Click "Search for Team"
7. At the bottom of the page under "Search Results" click "Join" in the Just Go row \
8. On the next page you can select the type of participant you are and your fundraising goal (note that meeting this goal is not required to participate like other Komen races)
9. Continue the registration process

Comunidades Unidas y sus programas de cáncer de seno han formado un equipo para la caminata anual de Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure en Salt Lake City. Que se llevar acabo  mayo 7, 2010. Los invitamos a unirse a nuestro equipo que lleva por nombre "Comunidades Unidas"  Esta caminata es para ayudar a seguir con las investigaciones y cura para el cáncer de seno.

Juntos podemos hacer la diferencia y luchar contra el cáncer de seno
Para unirse al equipo y registrarse:

1. Vayan a la pagina de web Susan G. Komen
2. Busque Komen Race for the Cure
3. Presione "Teams"
4. Escoja " Join a Team"
5. En la parte de abajo de la pagina para encontrar el equipo y haga "enter"

a) Team Name ( nombre del equipo): Comunidades Unidas
b) Team Company(nombre de la compania): Comunidades Unidas
c) Team Division (division del equipo): any division

6. Seleccionar "Search for a Team"
7. En la parte de abajo de la pagina bajo "Search Results" oprima "Join" en el espacio Go Row
8. En la siguente pagina puden selecionar el tipo de participante y la meta que quiere donar individualmente (la meta de donacion no es un requisito para participar en la caminata)
9. Continue con el proceso de registracion

Latina Breast Cancer Awareness Program

Comunidades Unidas' Latina Breast Cancer Education Program specifically targets the barriers that Latina women face in accessing healthcare services and seeks collaborative solutions for improved future health access, culturally and linguistically appropriate services and quality care.  CU focuses on empowering Latinas and building their capacity to assist and educate others in their community.

Program activities include:   

• Health Referrals: Refer women to breast cancer screenings and mammograms.

• Zumba Classes:  Besides learning Zumba, women are also educated about  breast cancer and healthy lifestyle choices.
  

• Girls Nights Out: Provides a unique opportunity for Latina women to come together and receive pampering care (pedicures, manicure and facials) while discussing the importance of breast health. (see poster below)

• Annual Latina Breast Cancer Awareness Fashion Show "The Pink Dress": raises awareness about breast Cancer in the Latino community.  The pink dress contest invites the community to design a pink dress for the cure.
