Coronavirus Information and Resources

We hope this information finds you and your family in good health. Given the current Coronavirus situation, Comunidades Unidas will follow all necessary precautions to keep our staff, volunteers, and community safe.

Per the suggestion of health officials, all of our public events will be postponed until further notice and Comunidades Unidas’ offices will be closed to the public from now until Monday May 18th 2020. The majority of our work will be moved online and over the phone including our Immigration Clinic, Census outreach and education, community training, and meetings.

As we know, public health issues disproportionately affect immigrants due to access issues and anti-immigrant policies such as the “public charge rule.” Immigrant families in Utah might be afraid and reluctant to seek health services. As a response, Comunidades Unidas along with many partner organizations, are discussing ways to inform our community about the Coronavirus, how to prevent it from spreading, and resources available to everyone regardless of immigration status.

Comunidades Unidas’ phone line and Facebook and Instagram channels will remain active and we encourage you to stay informed of any new development through those avenues. CU’s phone line 801-487-4143 is available Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am - 6:00 p.m. Our deportation defense resource line is 801-382-9087 (call or text) and its available Monday to Thursday 8 am to 6 pm.

Please give today, and give as generously as you can. Here's what your donation will fund:

  • $5: Help us provide referrals to immigrant families.

  • $50: Sponsor a family to receive SNAP enrollment assistance.

  • $200: Provide application assistance and representation to a DACA recipient.

  • $600: Help us keep our CU phone line open for a whole week.

If you want to move beyond a one-time donation and become a sustainer of Comunidades Unidas’ critical work, consider becoming a Dream Builder by making a monthly donation starting at $5, or make a one time gift here: http://bit.ly/CUDONATE

The following is a list of resources and information on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

In addition to working locally to help struggling families, CU also continues to press for strong policies at the federal level to protect the most vulnerable. Here are our priorities:

  • Direct economic stimulus to all workers, including ITIN filers and dependents.

  • Provide relief payments to all taxpayers, including those of mixed immigration status families, who include millions of children who are U.S. citizens.

  • Expand access to testing and treatment for COVID-19 to all people, regardless of Immigration Status.

  • Suspend immigration enforcement and release immigrants from detention

  • Immigrants are Humans too!

  • Suspend the implementation of the Public Charge Rule Direct

  • Automatic renewal of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) held by those currently eligible to work, such as DACA and TPS holders.

Supporting CU right now will help families and community members get the resources and services they need to survive this pandemic. Your contributions will make lasting impacts on the lives of our community members. As part of their commitment to CU’s work of serving Utah’s vulnerable populations during this time, the CU Board of Directors will match gifts up to a total of $2,900.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Webinars

The Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs, in collaboration with community organizations, will be hosting regular town halls and informational sessions with local experts to inform you of COVID-19 impacts and updates. Our hope is that we can work together to ensure that communication and updates regarding COVID-19 are streamlined and accessible.
