Comunidades Unidas Launches Civic Participation Initiative to Engage Latino Voters in 2018 Midterm

Updated: May 21, 2018

Vote For 2 Team 2016

West Valley City, UT - This Thursday, May 17.

Comunidades Unidas / Communities United (CU)

is proud to launch its “Vote for 2: Raise your voice, Defend your rights” nonpartisan voter registration and education campaign. The campaign aims to provide long term civic participation platforms to Utah’s Latino community in preparation for the 2018 midterm elections

The Vote for 2 campaign is anchored in research demonstrating infrequent Latino voters are

much more likely to vote when they understand political participation in the context of

representing their family and community.

Through this campaign, our goal is to register 1,000 Latino residents of West Valley City to vote by November 2018. In addition, the campaign will also provide voter education to 1,600 voters through the dissemination of culturally appropriate information so that voters can make informed decisions when going to the polls.

Similarly, through our annual Leadership Training, we provide community members of all backgrounds the opportunity to learn and expand their leadership skills to help advance the needs of their communities. Training graduates become their community’s advocates by helping their neighborhoods understand how to navigate Utah’s health care system, providing vital immigrant and workers rights information, and engaging others to become leaders.

By challenging the Latino community to become civically engaged we strive to also empower communities to become their own advocates by voting for the candidates and initiatives that represent their values.

Please join us at our Vote for 2 campaign launch open house on Thursday, May 17th from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at our offices located at 1750 W Research Way, Suite 102, West Valley City, UT 84119
