Local community leaders launch campaign to craft the Salt Lake County Immigrant People's Agenda

On Monday, November 6, 2023, 100 leaders from Comunidades Unidas’ base launched their campaign, aiming to create a Salt Lake County Immigrant People’s Agenda. They plan to present it to all candidates running for Salt Lake County mayor and council positions in October 2024, a month before their election.

From October 2022 to October 2023, CU conducted a listening campaign to pinpoint key issues and potential leaders for an initiative aimed at building the power of immigrants across the state. While community members from across the state participated in the listening campaign, a majority of participants are residents of Salt Lake County, which led the group to focus its attention on a campaign that has the ability to alter the conditions that shape the lived experiences of the county's immigrant population. Ultimately, the Salt Lake County Immigrant People's Agenda is about immigrants determining for themselves what's in their best interest and fighting for it.

"I am joining this campaign for myself, my family, other youth, and the undocumented community of this county who too often feel they don’t have a voice. To let them know that they have the power to speak up.” Cynthia Ponce, campaign leader, 17 years old.
